Emergency

There are two emergency numbers in Ireland — 112 and 999. Both are free of charge to call.
Call the emergency services by dialing 112 or 999 from a mobile or fixed phone line.
112 also works in any EU country and from any phone, free of charge.
What happens when you call 112 or 999
Once you’re connected to an emergency service operator, they will direct the call to the appropriate emergency service. This could be:
- ambulance
- Gardaí
- fire brigade
- coast guard
Electricity: For any electrical interruptions or emergencies you should contact ESB Networks immediately at 1850 372 999 (24 hours)
Gas: If you smell gas call Gas Networks Ireland 24 hour emergency line immediately or 1850 20 50 50.
Water: Report a possible blockage, flood, No water or very low pressure, sewage issue in a public watermain Call Water Ireland 1850 278 278 / International +353 1 707 2828. Lines are open 24 hours, 7 days a week. (Please note that the rates charged for 1850 numbers may vary across different service providers. Calls from mobiles may be more expensive).
The information you need
Once connected, you will need to know:
- the phone number you are calling from (so that if you get disconnected, they can call you back)
- the address or the location of where you are
- your Eircode, if possible
- what has happened
