Security and Protection Services Manager Nail Touhy at Vodafone gives top tips on how to aviod become a vitctim of cybercrime:
1-Deal with your phone as you deal with your computer , as most people enjoy all means of protection on their computers ,but they forget their phones , as they need protection as well , you should check your net work to see if you can get an antivirus program On their network and warnings if their website is unsafe .
2- Be wary of free software , which is meant be free programs, because you think that you are doing the right thing and protect your devices , but it is often much less useful than protection programs that are purchased with a few euros.
3-Passwords are important , Protect all programs and applications with strong passwords and update them regularly.
4-Check the e-mail adress carefully , it often appears that the e-mail adress sent by legitmate fraudsters , but which close examination , it may contain an additional letter or symbol, so you must make sure before cliking the e-mail.
5-Be wary of the urge to respond to an e-mail. take a few minutes and pass it several times and a least once aloud. the simple act of reading aloud can show some red flags, because phishing e-mails are often written in the wrong way.
6-Be wary of SMS messages because fraudsters often use dangerous spyware through SMS text messages using phrases that are difficult to ignore such as ”Ijust saw this picture of you”.
7- Make a back up copy , regularly back up all important date on separate storage devices ,Store your date in two or three different places.
