General Practitioner (GP)
GPs are often the first point of contact for anyone with a physical or mental health problem and patients can be at their most anxious. They treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment. They focus on the health of the whole person combining physical, psychological and social aspects of care.
To know the GPs near your residency:
Go to icgp.ie and search by the area you live in to get a list of the GPs.
To register at a GP:
- Phone the GP and ask if they have a place for registration.
- You will need the following documents
- PPS number
- Date of birth
- Proof of address
- Tenant contract
- Utility (Electricity/Gas) bill
- Bank Statement
- Fill a registration form provided by the GP
Tips:
- Provide documents for chronic medical conditions from doctor in Egypt to be able to continue medication, else you will start the diagnosis process from the beginning
- To apply for naturalization, you might be asked to provide a supporting letter from the GP. Therefore, it is very important to register with a GP, and to make at least 1 yearly check-up visit to be able to get this supporting letter
- It is mandatory to register dependents under 18 years of age at the GP
