The University of Cambridge offers a government- funded program in Modern Irish History
During his recent visit to London , Mr Simon Coveney, Ireland`s Minister of Foreign Affairs , announced that a three- year study program would be offered to Cambridge University in support of the modern Irish History Programme, amounting to 300,000 euros funded by the Irish Government.
Minister Coveney, Dr.E. Gallagher and her colleagues Professor Eugenio Biagni and Professor Richard Burke at the University of Cambridge met this month at the Embassy of Ireland in london to discuss the purpose of this programme, as it is certain that this program will provide students at the University of Cambridge with an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and understanding of history Irish.
Mr. Simon Coveney added that this program is one of anumber of ways that the Department of State`s Interest Fund Supports academic work, with the aim of building and strengthening the relationship between Ireland and Britain and in order to advance true knowledge of each other and deepen mutual understanding .
The Head of the school of History at the University of Cambridge , Professor Alexander Walsham , expressed her happiness and the happiness of the University to be the host institution for this special study program in Irish history , and added that she looked forward to working with Dr. Gala Gherr, a research at the University of Cambridge , to advance the understanding of the complex relations between Britian and Ireland , and to advance the agenda of peace and reconciliation over the next three years .
