Ireland will provide 1 million euros in funding to support those affected by the crisis in Afghanistan
The Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs , Mr Simon Coveney , announced that the Irish government had agreed to provide one million euros to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for the people of Afghanistan, especially that the situation in the country had become very worrying, even before the events of the past few weeks, there were already nearly three million Afghans displaced from their homes due to insecurity.
Ireland will continue to participate , including in the United Nations Security Council, to support peace in Afghanistan and to protect and promote the human rights of all Afghans , especially women , girls and children. Ireland also called for full humanitarian acess to all Afghans , including in response to the immediate needs of families who were forced to flee their homes.
Meanwhile, images and videos shocked the world , as the desperate risk everything to escape from the Taliban, who regained their overwhelming strength after the departure of American forces from the country for the first time in 20 years, videos of people clinging to the wheels of an American plane, before falling to their deaths , Before taking off , and videos of gunfire being fired at a desperate crowed of asylum seekers at Kabul airport, all these reasons prompted Ireland to provide support and humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.
Mr. Simon Coveney announced earlier this week that Ireland will take in at least 150 Afghan refugees and the number is likely to rise in the coming months.
