Minister of Justice: Opening of the regularization program for illegal immigrants
In a press release yesterday, the Irish Minister of Justice, Mrs Helen McEntee announced RTE’s Morning Ireland programme.
Online applications for illegal immigrants will be accepted for a period of six months. at this scheme will provide an opportunity for those who meet its criteria to remain and reside in the country and to become part of mainstream Irish society rather than live on its margins.
Although applicants must have been in Ireland for a continuous period of four years, the minister said a 90- day period was included in the scheme, which would allow someone to leave the country for valid reasons, while those with children under 18 would need to year to reside in Ireland for only three years.
Ms.Hele, McEntee described the program as a ”one – in-a- generation plan ” that would improve the lives of thousands of people who have contributed to the community but still live without formal residency permits , Currently , up to 1,700 people and 3,00 children are not legally regsitered.
The Executive Director of the Irish Immigration Board , Mr Brian Killoran, welcomed the scheme , describing it as rare , explaining that it will change the lives of thousands of people for the better because it grants successful applicants permission to reside and their residence status will be regularized , which means that they have full access to the labor market in Ireland from They will then be able to obtain Irish citizenship by naturalization.
