The European Space Agency (ESA) is an international organization dedicated to space exploration with 22 member states including Austria , Belgium, Denmark, Finland , France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, the other Ireland joined the European Space Agency in 1975, where Irish research groups helped shape the European Space program Ireland gained a reputation as a leader in innovative space technologies Only 1% of the total budget.
The Director General of the European Space Agency, Mr Joseph Ashbacher, explained that the agency has recently established an extended agenda over the nex four years that includes priorities aimed at developing and consolidating the agency as a pioneer in the field of space.
ESA Chief Officer Piero Messina told the Journal .ie that Ireland is a good example of a small country that is very active in the development of its space field . the program was awarded 1.5 million euros to support research at Irish institutes and universities last year and the agency also offered an elective program specializing in space launch vehicle development and communications and remote sensing research.
The first Irish- made satellite was launched next year led by Professor Hanlon, a research fellow at the European Space Agency , as part of the agency’s Fil Satellite programme.
The Director of the Irish Space Program , Mr . Tony Mac Donald , stated that the European Space Agency plays a pivotal role in the space field in Ireland , as it is a strong assistant to the 34 Irish companies specialized in the field of space , as the Agency provided 11 million euros in support for these companies .
