On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the media is overflowing with calls and reminders for self- examination
Every year in Ireland, nearly 3,000 cases of breast cancer are diagosed , and nearly 700 people lose their lives, Early detection is essential to saving lives, Continuous conversations and awareness programs have a significant impact on raising awar eness to the public.
The Irish Cancer Society also calls for people to be encouraged to support each other to get tested regularly , and to conduct a comprehensive self- examination on a monthly basis , as recent research shows that 61% of women between the ages of 25-44 do not do self- examination and do not know how to do it.
Here some basic things to watch
1- The breasts are monitored from different locations and look for any abnormal changes, such as a change in size, shape or color, and make sure that they are naturally equal without swelling or swelling.
Searching for any wrinkles or protrusions in the skin or any discharge from the nipple or a change in its position .
3-Using the three middle fingers and making circular movements for each area in the breast, making sure that there is no lump.
4- The hands are raised to examine the axillary area.
It is necessary to bear in mind that breast cancer is not the only possible cause of such changse, but there are hormonally related causes (pregnancy, breastfeeding, menopause, menstruation).
