EMA European Medicines Agency begins evaluation of Moderna vaccine in children aged 6-11 years
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has begun evaluating an application to expand the use of the Spikvax Moderna Covid -19 vaccine for children aged6-11 years.
Spikevax is acoronavirus vaccine, currently approved for use in people 12 years of age and older , that contains a molecule called messenger RNA(mRNA) known as the spike protein found naturally in SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid -19 Spike vax was first licensed in the Europen Union in January 2021, where the vaccine works by preparing the body to defend itself against the virus.
The EMA’S Committee on Human Medicines (CHMP) will review data on the vaccine, including results from an ongoing clinical study involving children aged 6 to 11 years, in order to determine whether or not to recommend expansion of its use Always based on the data provided , the evalution schedule expects an opinion within approximately two months , unless additional information or analysis is required .
The EMA will report the outcome of its evalution , and the CHMP’S opinion will then be sent to the European Commission, which will issue a final decision .
