As part of Fraud Awareness Week: Irish Police warn Employees of Email Fraud
Irish police have issued a warning to employees in any work environment to be very wary of sending any payments online, especially when they are asked for money to new bank account numbers , as nearly 6 million euros were stolen from Ireland – based companies in 2021.
This report shows a decrease of 48% compared to 2020 , in most cases the money is transferred abroad and the victims range from small businesses to large companies , all employees should be aware of this fraud and receive training to avoid this type of fraud , and in case of any Doubt Delay the transfer and report any suspected fraud to the police as soon as possible.
No company is immune to this type of fraud , Chief Detective Pat Lordan of Garada Nation Economic Crim Bureau said at a press conference today. such fraud could lead to business closings and layoffs.
Police advise members of the public who believe they are victims of business email fraud to contact nay Garda stations and report the crime.
