The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has begun evaluating an application to expand the use of the Spikvax Moderna Covid -19 vaccine for children aged6-11 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spikevax is acoronavirus vaccine, currently approved for use in people 12 years of age and older , that contains a molecule called messenger RNA(mRNA) known as the spike protein found naturally in SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid -19 Spike vax was first licensed in the Europen Union in January 2021, where the vaccine works by preparing the body to defend itself against the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EMA’S Committee on Human Medicines (CHMP) will review data on the vaccine, including results from an ongoing clinical study involving children aged 6 to 11 years, in order to determine whether or not to recommend expansion of its use Always based on the data provided , the evalution schedule expects an opinion within approximately two months , unless additional information or analysis is required .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EMA will report the outcome of its evalution , and the CHMP’S opinion will then be sent to the European Commission, which will issue a final decision .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
